A GREAT BIG WORLD continued their tour into New Jersey over the weekend and performed at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. In case you weren’t able to catch the show, NJ.com was on-hand for the performance and gave the band a stunning show review.
Bespectacled pianist Ian Axel, diminutive singer-trumpeter Chad Vaccarino and three flamboyantly dressed accomplices aren’t trying to fool anybody. There is not an ounce of grit in the music they make. They neither have nor play the blues. Their upbeat, giddy, piano-based pop-rock makes Owl City seem like Black Sabbath. They arrive, toting 10-ton smiles and gently motivational lyrics, from a parallel universe where Billy Joel and Broadway are cornerstones of popular music and the legacy of Chuck Berry is nowhere in sight.
